This stoneware small bottle in a celadon glaze was fired in the University of Ulster gas kiln. Due to the reaction the celadon glaze has produced a beautiful grey colour. The bottle is the perfect size for whiskey or oil. The bottle comes with a cork stopper which isn’t displayed in the picture.
The Earth and Flame series was all about FIRE and it’s effect on the pots. Through the combustion of wood / gas each of the 3 firings create actual flames, which weave their way from the firebox, through the rows of pots and up out the flue. This results in lots of exciting and unpredictable effects on each piece, making each one truly unique. The 3 Kilns, Nic’s Anagama, Sabine’s Wood + Soda and the University’s gas kiln each have their own quirks and features that they add onto the pieces. In essence, the kilns do the decoration on these pieces.
We lost a lot of pots in the harsh firings, but we got lots of treasures out too, and we are delighted to share them with you!
